简介：This early 70's giallo by Umberto Lenzi is certainly among the best in his filmography and also in the whole genre. Personally I think Lenzi's best films are the funny cartoon-turned-film Kriminal, the stylish giallo Seven Blood-Stained Orchids, the explosive Napoli violenta and this. In the eighties he did plenty of film trash in form of Eaten Alive, Hitcher in the Dark or Black Demons, all of which are ripping something off and/or very dull and slow moving. Knife of Ice came when the giallo boom was at its hottest and the result is convincing. 　　Technically the film is superb, containing great cinematography in the beginning when we learn about the main character's trauma towards trains. From this point on, Lenzi shows us his ability to benefit the widescreen and, for example, the bicycle ride near the forest is genuinely beautiful! This scene also shows Lenzi's ability to build suspense, very slowly but meaningfully. After all, there aren't so many murders in the whole film, only the suspense circulating around the murderer's identity. 　　One suspect is a devil worshipper which brings new aspects to the mystery. Since the final scene takes place in a church, one can wonder if Lenzi wanted to comment on something, maybe the hypocritical morale of church and superstition. The main character (Carrol Baker) is mute which demands a lot from her face and eyes. The actress works very well, giving us a believable performance circulating around the emotions of fear and mental pain. The other actors are good, too. The finally, however, may not give too positive a sight about female sex since they all are expressed rather negatively in the film, one way or another. Still this is easily among the most noteworthy in the genre, not as bloody as the Argento films, for example, but equally suspenseful and visually also interesting.

简介：Woman on the Beach is a controversial film noir, an intense psychological drama about the worlds leading artist, recently blinded, who is obsessed with his condition and takes out his frustrations on his beautiful wife. A Coast Guard officer, recuperating from injuries suffered during the war, is drawn into their quiet conflict, and they become locked in an odd symbiotic relationship. This was the last American film by the French screen legend Jean Renoir. Critically panned when first released, the film later developed a cult following by many who consider it an existential masterpiece. 　　 　　A WWII Coast Guard veteran, Lt. Scott Burnett (Robert Ryan), is plagued by nightmares of his combat days. One day, he meets a woman, Peggy Butler (Joan Bennett), walking on a beach, picking up pieces of wood. Butler is married to a grumpy, blind painter, Ted Butler (Charles Bickford). Despite his affections for his fiance Eve (Nan Leslie), whose father is a boat builder, Scott falls in love with Peggy and soon breaks off the engagement. Peggy reveals that she blinded her husband years earlier by throwing a glass at him during an ugly spat, ruining his career and her own ambitions to be an upper-class socialite. Scott fears that Ted is suspicious that he is having an affair with Peggy and becomes so paranoid that he begins to believe that Ted is faking his blindness — and sets out to prove it. This was the fifth and final American film by the great French writer-director Jean Renoir.

Falling somewhere in the middle distance between Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes and Jodie Foster's Flightplan, the 1953 thriller Dangerous Crossing is another tale of a perilous journey where someone disappears into thin air and only one person even remembers him existing. 　　Jeanne Crain is Ruth Bowman, formerly Stanton, a newlywed who boards an ocean liner with hubbie John (Carl Betz) to honeymoon abroad. Once the ship has sailed, however, John is nowhere to be found, and no one but Ruth remembers seeing him. Adding further frustration is the fact that though Ruth insists they checked into a larger room as a couple, the ship has her booked in a different room as a single passenger, and under her maiden name to boot. The ship's doctor, Paul Manning (Michael Rennie), takes Ruth under his care, but he becomes too confused by his attraction to her to know for sure if she's telling the truth or merely delusional. Late-night phone calls from John warning Ruth of trouble are no help, nor is the fact that the nuptials were so quickly arranged, there is nothing to verify that they even happened, not even a ring. 　　Ruth sees trouble around every corner. So much so, you'd be forgiven if you mistook the pleasure cruiser for a fishing trawler casting a wide net for red herring. There is the gay divorcee who warned of lost husbands, and the leering steward and his inappropriate innuendos. There is also a little post-War paranoia, with the creepiest suspect being a German-accented man with a limp. Even the audience has some reason to doubt Ruth. We've seen John, but her whispered inner monologue makes us wonder if maybe we're not part of her persecution complex. 　　Directed by Joseph Newman, and based on a story by mystery writer John Dickson Carr, Dangerous Crossing may be the 24th entry in Fox's newly exhumed Film Noir series, but purists will find that definition stretched a bit to include this title. Though Newman does imbue the ocean liner with an atmosphere of dread, with its endless corridors, foggy decks, and even the occasional, subtle up-and-down shifting of the frame to simulate the queasiness of sea travel, he doesn't take full advantage. Dangerous Crossing lacks the hardboiled edge or blackened morality that is normally found on noirish streets. Plus, some of the more seasoned purveyors of the genre with a stronger sense of the grotesque would have never thrown a Halloween party on board without using masks and hidden identities to take advantage of the noir theme of reinvention. It's like Mr. Arkadin put on one of his costume parties and everyone showed up in their regular clothes. 　　Yet, if you're not bugged by misplaced tags and want a solid black-and-white suspense film, Dangerous Crossing should do the trick. Jeanne Crain makes for an excellent losing-her-mind heroine, and the script should keep you guessing right up until the big reveal.

简介：This might be the best of the few Mexican horror films. The story revolves about a statue of a boy which is found in the forest near the main character´s house. Legend says that the statue is not really what it seems to be. As with most horror films prior to the 70's, this movie lacks gore or flashy fx but compensates it with solid acting from most part of the cast and a very creepy and uneasy atmosphere that leaves you looking twice over your shoulder or looking more carefully at the shadows in the corners even after repeated viewings
