故事围绕着西班牙农村青年米凯尔（Miguel Mateo 'Miguelín' 饰）展开，他来到巴塞罗那城谋生。然而，现实是残酷的，微薄的收入以及中间人的剥削让他对城市生活的幻想彻底破灭，失去了对生活的信心。 一次偶然中，他发现了一间业余斗牛士学校，斗牛在西班牙是一份报酬高且容易出名的职业。因此，米凯尔来到斗牛学校，专心学习斗牛技巧。通过艰苦的斗牛训练，米凯尔展现出过人的天赋，很快便成为了一名杰出的斗牛士。随之而来的是荣誉和财富，他将父母从乡间接到巴塞罗那城，并建起了自己的房屋。一天，某位老板找到了米凯尔，要求他去美国参加比赛，这件事彻底改变了米凯尔的人生。
